Signaling on a Roundabout: How and When to Use Your Indicators
Indicating the direction at a roundabout seems simple, right? But did you know that this is one of the most common mistakes during the theory exam and in practice is?
We're happy to explain exactly how to do it — so you do it right!
Indicate the direction at the roundabout: why is it so difficult?
Many people think that you should always indicate direction as soon as you enter the roundabout. But that is not entirely true. The rules are just a little bit more specific, and if you don't know them well, this can immediately result in an error during your exam.
The confusion comes from the fact that drivers sometimes think that “straight ahead” is also a direction. In reality does not exist: indicate direction for straight ahead — and that causes misunderstandings
How do you indicate the correct direction at a roundabout?
At the roundabout, do you take the 1st exit? In other words, you want to go to the right. Then, of course, you have to pre-sort in the right lane and give pre when you enter the roundabout, turn right.
You want to turn right. Do you have to turn your direction at the roundabout?
No, because you already have to FOR show your direction at the roundabout!
Do you want to go to the roundabout 2nd exit take? So that means straight ahead, then you can keep both sides and you have to do not indicate a direction in front of the roundabout. There is also no direction for straight ahead. After the first exit, at B in the image below, show your direction to the right, showing that you are going to turn at the 2nd exit.
Do you want the 3rd exit take? So you want to go left. Then, of course, choose the left lane if there are more lanes, and give before the roundabout, turn left. Left, Left, Left, Left, until after the 2nd exit. Then show your direction to the right and leave the roundabout at the 3rd exit. So in the image above, that would be with C.
